It was good to be back... home….where her things are…where everything is her choice. That was a joke. She learned long ago that was bullshit. There is no such thing as choice, simply easy decisions or hard decisions or not making a decision at all.
She checks her cell. No answers, no replies.
The taxi stinks of sweat and cigarettes but in the fading sunlight the city is breathtaking.
Stopped at an intersection in Woolloomooloo a different taxi driver had once said to her ‘Every time I stop here I am amazed that I live in such a beautiful city’. She had forgotten.

Stopped at an intersection in Woolloomooloo a different taxi driver had once said to her ‘Every time I stop here I am amazed that I live in such a beautiful city’. She had forgotten.
Like everyone around her she had been looking for beauty on a designer rack or framed by an architecturally designed aluminum bifold. That taxi driver had found it looking out his grimy window.
A kilometre away the homeless drug addicts, prostitutes and criminals were mixing it up with the city’s most stylish. The dirty ugly and the shiny ugly….that’s our focus…what we want. The splendour could wait.
As she walked up to the apartment she was fantasizing about him lying on the bed naked with food. But he wasn’t home, probably punishing her for the tabloid gossip. His things were still here though and the dogs bowl, which was a good sign. He would be back.

IGirl was hungry, too hungry to wait. She dropped her bags, grabbed the GHB from the bathroom, stowed it in her Gucci and left the apartment. She noticed her reflection in the glass of the elevator, distended gums. Tonight she would have to scavenge for herself.

The Juice
Despite recent claims that her relationship with musician Rowan Bark was ‘fine, definitely not over’, fashion's spooky sweetheart IGirl was seen leaving her Tokyo Fashion Week opening show with London based agent/producer Mark Selwyn.
IGirl and Selwyn share a romantic past having been a couple six years ago when IGirl (then known by her real name) was modeling for his agency.
After leaving the venue together, the two were spotted enjoying what looked like a romantic supper at a local restaurant.
A fellow diner in the restaurant said, ‘They were gazing into each others eyes, touching hands across the table, no outright public displays but there was definitely chemistry’.
It’s not the first time the two have sparked rumours in the past six months. Fashion insiders claim he is by her side at most shows and that they often leave together.
‘It’s obvious there’s something going on. He (Selwyn) is pulling strings for her in the industry. They're together. Her boyfriend is just too daft to face it,’ said one fashion insider who prefers to remain anonymous.
IGirl herself has made no response to these claims but PR peep Roly Kay states,'Absurd, they’re old friends and they often eat together. The comments made by your ‘anonymous’ source are nothing more than acrimonious here-say. And that is obvious'.

She had been devastated but looking back on it now she saw it from a whole new perspective. Of course he left her, how could she really blame him. She wasn’t in love with him, she didn’t even know what love was, she didn’t even know herself at the time. He had been cruel though, unnecessarily so.
IGirl (but that wasn’t her name at the time) had crawled off the edges of the international modeling stage she had spent two or three years groping to reach and into the calming waters of her home town.
Eventually the pain dulled and she had found herself and found him, the real love of her life. The one who had truly fed her heart and then torn it. The one whose music she danced to even now and who she dreamt of touching.
But it wasn’t him in front of her now it was Mark. Mark who had been through at least three models since he had left her. Mark whose thirty year old desire for variety and independence had morphed into a sentimental thirty-six year old craving for genuine affection. Mark wanted the new IGirl, what he had once had and more.
It was vaguely amusing to IGirl, Mark’s new flirtation. She had indulged it slightly but never seriously.
She remembered lying in bed with Mark all of those years back, wondering where he was and wishing he was more with her. Now if they went to bed together she would be wishing she was somewhere else, or he was someone else.
The more standoffish she was the harder Mark tried. There were rumours that he had attributed to her labels success, pulling strings backstage, helping her career along. It was possible, probable even, Roly certainly kissed his ass enough for it, why should she? Any attraction she had ever felt for him was long gone, she couldn’t bring it back even if she wanted to.
And besides, there was her secret. She could be careful, go to bed with him one night, multiple nights really but she couldn’t give him what he wanted, couldn’t be with him, build a beautiful nest, make beautiful fashionable babies, look beautiful together at beautiful events. Not without giving herself away. Or there was the option she supposed but she had never entertained it. To spread what she had, give it to another in the same way it had been given to her.
Irrelevant. Sleeping with him tonight or any night would just add to the complication. She was better off sleeping alone even if part of her wanted the company and the release. She could probably find someone else for that anyway, someone less complicated.
